Helping teachers to develop the new required skills
Objectives:
The pace of change in the economy, society and technology, is demanding teachers to cope with complex problems in their everyday practice and therefore they require new sets of skills, such as innovation, empathy, design, creativity, problem solving, co-creation.
Hence, teacher need to develop new competences and ways of thinking to be able to face those new educational challenges, among the approaches that have been found relevant to cope with the new teaching and learning scenarios is the incorporation of design in the educational field, in other words, seen the teaching practice as a design profession.
A key element of this transformation of teachers becoming teachers as designers (TasD) is to work on their mindset, a mindset that makes them capable of addressing multi-faceted problems.
Implementation:
The project includes five main activities:
A1: Management and implementation of the project.
A2: Identification and description of ways of thinking associated with a design mindset for teachers.
A3: Run a full design thinking process to generate learning activities to develop teacher design mindsets.
A4: Co-create with teachers design principles to create a professional development program to foster teachers as designer mindsets.
A5: Dissemination and communication.
Specific objectives are:
- Create a TasD mindsets framework to provide a complete picture of the role of teachers as designers within VET, which has been co-designed with teachers from Denmark, Spain, and Finland.
- Use design thinking and co-creation to design educational interventions that can foster the mindsets defined in the TasD mindsets framework
Partners:
Denmark, Spain and Finland.
