Active Aid
The Active Aid project has been launched with the aim of ensuring inclusive access to health services and employment opportunities for trans and intersex people in Europe. These communities often face significant barriers due to discrimination, lack of understanding and social exclusion, factors that limit their full participation in society. With a comprehensive approach encompassing six work packages, Active Aid seeks to transform this reality, addressing both the specific challenges and the solutions needed to promote equality.
The initiative begins with a comprehensive needs assessment, through interviews with health professionals, employers, and members of the LGBTQI+ communities. This research will provide a better understanding of the difficulties faced by trans and intersex people and will provide a solid basis for the development of inclusive training programmes and policies.
The Active Aid project has two key objectives:
- Firstly, it seeks to improve access to health services that are respectful and appropriate for trans and intersex people by developing specific training programmes for health professionals. These programmes will focus on understanding the unique needs of these communities. In addition, changes in medical practices will be promoted, ensuring that health workers are trained to provide an inclusive and respectful environment.
- The second major objective is to improve employment opportunities for these people by working directly with employers and employers to reduce discrimination in the workplace. This will be achieved through workshops, training programmes and the creation of inclusive policies that enable trans and intersex people to access the labour market on equal terms.
- Finally, it also fosters policy dialogue between authorities, labour market actors and health organisations to promote inclusive public policies that support these communities in the long term.
Throughout the project, numerous concrete results are expected to contribute to improving the quality of life of trans and intersex people. These include the creation of an updated report on discrimination faced by these communities, providing key data for a deeper understanding of the problem.
Specialised training programmes will also be developed for health professionals and employers to improve their ability to provide fair and non-judgmental treatment. These trainings will not only raise awareness, but also provide practical tools for integrating diversity into their work and healthcare environments.
In addition, the project includes the development of policy recommendations to governments and public organisations, with the aim of promoting legislative and policy reforms to ensure the rights of trans and intersex people in health care and employment. To reinforce these actions, Active Aid will create awareness-raising materials, such as videos and infographics, to help raise awareness of the challenges faced by trans and intersex people and how we can all contribute to a more inclusive society.
The Active Aid project not only aims to remove barriers to access to health and employment for trans and intersex people, but also positions itself as a transformative initiative at European level. With its innovative approach, combining training, policy dialogue and public awareness-raising, Active Aid aims to bring about lasting change in the way these communities are treated and supported in various social and professional contexts.
By engaging health professionals, employers, politicians and the wider community, the project has the potential to create a more inclusive environment where trans and intersex people can access their fundamental rights without fear of discrimination. Furthermore, its transnational dimension ensures that the impact extends beyond the borders of the participating countries, generating long-term benefits for the entire European Union.
The success of the Active Aid project is guaranteed by a strong transnational partnership network that includes organisations from Spain, Greece, Lithuania, Ireland and Cyprus. Each of these partners brings local experience and expertise, ensuring that the solutions developed are both innovative and tailored to the specific contexts of each country. This network also encourages the exchange of good practices and the strengthening of partnerships that promote equal rights across Europe.
With the involvement of organisations specialising in LGBTQI+ rights, health, and employment, the Active Aid project promises to be a catalyst for real and tangible change for trans and intersex communities in Europe.
