AYDRESS aims to engage, connect and empower young people on the issue of the environment, the fight against climate change and the negative effects of disasters caused by extreme weather events, which pose risks to nature, buildings, infrastructure and human health. The aim is to promote youth participation at various scales and formats and to support civic engagement and volunteering that can make a big difference in the aftermath of a natural disaster.

The overall objective of the AYDRESS project is to increase the resilience of society to climate disasters through active citizenship of the younger generation (active role in disaster preparedness and response) to support young people as vulnerable citizens and other socio-economically vulnerable groups where young people will act as leading citizens.

To achieve its purpose, the project defined the following objectives:

– To sensitise (vulnerable) youth on existing risks and how to interact with the relevant institutional framework (top-down and bottom-up mechanisms);

– To raise awareness among (vulnerable) young people about the mechanisms of vulnerability and the levels of exposure at personal and group level (to which the targeted young people might belong);

– Empower young people to be active citizens before a disaster occurs, to be able to apply knowledge and information to reduce exposure risks for themselves and their relatives (e.g. intergenerational support within migrant groups), applying good practices/criteria for bottom-up prevention and preparedness;

– Empowering young people to be active citizens in the immediate aftermath of a disaster, acting as well-trained volunteers.

AYDRESS outcomes are:

– Development of digital learning Applied game for community involvement in youth disaster relief actions (WP2).

– Development/presentation of guidelines for youth/environmental organisations (WP3)

– Development of a learning programme, based on Pilot Activities and Disaster Management Manual (WP4)

– Local engagement strategies aimed at involving community members, recommendations and proposed actions to local decision-makers, production and dissemination of videos of project actions (WP5)

– Content sustainability actions (WP5)
